March 02, 2022 – Metro Nashville Public Schools to pay former student $70K in 2017 sexual harassment case. A federal judge ordered Metro Nashville Public Schools to pay $70,000 to a former student, saying the district did not do enough to protect her from harassment.

The judge ruled MNPS was liable in a Title IX violation after a yearslong court battle. Title IX is a federal law that prohibits gender discrimination in schools.

The ruling comes after a lawsuit first filed in 2017 by a mother who said her 15-year-old-daughter was “subjected to unwelcome sexual contact by a male student” that April in an unlocked classroom at Hunters Lane High School while another student recorded it on video.

May 10, 2019 – MNPS failed to protect students despite knowing of sex videos, judge says advancing lawsuit. A multi-million dollar lawsuit against Metro schools will go forward after a federal judge ruled there was “ample evidence” to show officials knew there was a sexual harassment problem in Nashville’s public schools but failed to protect students.

The lawsuit involves four girls who claim they were pressured into sexual encounters at their high schools that were videoed without their knowledge, in a practice teens call “exposing.”

Aug 7, 2018 – Three female employees have filed a million-dollar lawsuit against the owners of an IHOP restaurant on allegations of sexual misconduct. The women say they alerted management, but nothing was done. The lawsuit filed in federal court, raises more broad questions about the treatment of especially female employees in the restaurant industry.

“It never ceases to dumbfound me what these corporations will let happen and how they let abuse go on and on before taking any action,” said attorney Mary Parker. “Unfortunately, when that happens we have to get involved,” said attorney Stephen Crofford.
